Woman is hit and killed on Highway 99 in Fresno, CHP says

FRESNO, Calif. -- The California Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a woman who was hit by a car on Highway 99 on Friday night.

Officers responded at 10:00 p.m. to the Southbound lane of Highway 99, just north of North Avenue.

When they arrived, emergency personnel were administering life-saving measures to a woman, but she died at the scene from her injuries.

Officials say a person driving a Dodge Charger was traveling southbound in the number one lane when a woman entered the roadway.

The car struck the woman.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver, and a toxicology report is pending for the woman who died.

This crash remains under investigation.
